A Sunny Day in Qualicum Beach

On the first sunny weekend of this dreary spring, it felt as if someone had paid the ransom; so it was natural to head to the beach.

It was a remarkable day and normally shy wildlife seemed happy to share their beach with us at low low tide. There were thousands of live Sand Dollars barely submerging their purple spines into the beach.

A community of Oyster Catchers were like any large family at the beach, some swam, some ate and many just sunbathed. These are some of my favourite sea birds with their orange beak and eye marking and pink legs. They are cartoons made real and seem to enjoy the role.

We enjoyed Blue Heron, Bald Eagles and migrating Brant Ducks. There was a cloud of thousands of Seagulls that from time to time took the sky to celebrate the occasion of their gathering.

The tide pools were actually warm to the touch and the normal breeze was absent so we could greet the sun with no dilution of its arrival.

I am always amazed at nature's capacity for beauty and as we strolled, one delight after another appeared at our feet.

A glorious day that felt as if winter was apologizing and spring is truly knocking.
